On New York City

While my last article might have portrayed a life full of challenges, my everyday life is in fact extremely normal and I love New York City.

I have always loved New York City, ever since I watched Felicity in my adolescence. Since then, I have been watching and reading all the movies/ tv series/ books/ blogs featuring lives in New York City. I slowly fell in love with the city where people from all over the country and the world would come to pursue their dreams and to share their differences with each other. It is the best melting pot of culture to be in.

So one could not ask for a better place to be an immigrant than New York City. Your difference is neutralized by all the differences that are boiling in the city at any given moment. Of course, you can divide the city into a few generalized segments - by zip code, race, language, occupation, activities etc., the fact is there is always a little bit of minority where you might belong and to stretch beyond.

6 months in, my favorite thing about the city is the amazing humans of New York, who welcomed me and are generous enough to introduce me to their connections/ friends in the city. I guess the US culture of networking has a big role to play in this (will dedicate an article on this), but I have a feeling that people are just open to the idea of making acquaintances, maybe because they were once "new" to the city in their own way too?

P.S. Human of New York is an amazing blog filled with personal stories of everyday people in the city. If someone asks you to share a short story of your life, what would it be?
